Situated beside the Mississippi River on the Iowa-Illinois state line, Burlington is a city with plenty to offer visitors and residents alike. Families enjoy passing time at Fun City—a resort containing Huck's Harbor waterpark, King Pins bowling alley, Spirit Hollow golf course and many other fun-filled areas. The city is the first stop in Iowa along Amtrak’s California Zephyr route, connecting Chicago to Emeryville, California.
Burlington also boasts a rich heritage that dates back to the mid-1800s. One of the most recognizable historic landmarks is Snake Alley, which was built in 1894 as a shortcut from Heritage Hill to the business area. Dropping 58 ft (18 m) in a short distance, early engineers added angled bricks to help horses descend the twisty road. The nearby Geode State Park is an ideal place to partake in watersports, camp, hike and view crystallized geode rocks.
